Imagining Argentina

Imagining Argentina is a 2003 Spanish-British-American historical drama written and directed by Christopher Hampton and starring Antonio Banderas and Emma Thompson. This gripping political thriller, set in Argentina during the corrupt military dictatorship of the 1970s, is the story of a man (Banderas) with the power to see the fate of missing people—with the exception of his own beloved missing wife, an outspoken journalist, and his daughter, who are among the 30,000 “desaparecidos” (the disappeareds). I saw this film before my aunt, grandmother and eventually Reiki helped me tap into my intuitive sight, yet I was moved to tears and most curious about this extraordinary gift that made so much sense to me. It’s a rare glimpse into our innate intuitive knowledge in action in the midst of brutal political oppression and personal crisis.
